Is the baptism of John Roberts on 1 2 August 1172 at Clymping for real, or a typo?
According to the Sussex Family History Group’s Frontis database for Climping (the modern spelling), the baptisms for this parish start in 1572, but interestingly they do not include a John Roberts that year – the first entry is for William Regate on 13 Jul that year and, all the first entries are taken from the Bishop’s Transcripts with the note “no PR”. Also, no baptism is recorded for 12 Aug. So it’s really interesting if FMP has somehow found the parish register!
A search in Frontis for the Sussex baptism of a John Roberts in 1572 brings up only John Robards in the parish register of Sompting on 02 April.
I wonder where FMP is getting their data?
